About Talknology
Start LearningTALKNOLOGY is a language preservation and accelerated learning system that allows you to memorise words and phrases very fast and be able to use what you have learnt straight away.
It is based on three principal learning approaches modified for TALKNOLOGY -
Flashcards
Flashcards have successfully been used particularly with languages for many years as a way of repetitively reinforcing the recall of words and phrases. Most of the international language learning systems provided digitally have some form of flashcards that they use. With our TALKNOLOGY system flash cards, we have the facility for reinforcing lessons with the words and phrases in that lesson, added to a learner’s pack. When a learner reviews their flashcard pack, they are asked to rate each card. After they have rated the card it is processed by a computer algorithm that when reviewing in the future, will bring forward the cards least known, more often. It will bring forward the cards known well, less often, so that a learner is continually advancing with learning what they need to review in the right balance.
Pareto Principle
The Pareto principle is a principle, named after Italian economist and sociologist Vilfredo Pareto, that specifies an unequal relationship between inputs and outputs. The principle states that 20% of the invested input is responsible for 80% of the results obtained. When applied to our TALKNOLOGY system we are looking to learn the 20% of a language that is used 80% of the time in conversation. Our efforts with language specialists are to attempt to identify the 20% of a language needed to start to hold a conversation in a language.
Context of Learning
If you refine the context of how you plan to use a language, then it focuses once again on specific words and phrases within a language you need to learn more precisely. With TALKNOLOGY we are looking to refine the context of the language use and to wrap the lessons around that. With Speak Māori - General we are looking to encourage people to learn Māori that would be commonly used in a family environment. This encourages users to speak Māori with their extended family in a variety of situations, promoting regular use and in the future inter-generational transfer which is crucial for language revitalisation and survival.
TALKNOLOGY is not the full answer to learning a language. Each of us, no matter how accomplished are always learning a language and there are many resources and means to achieve this. TALKNOLOGY aims to provide a readily available platform for accelerated language learning and in doing so provide a means of assisting to preserve languages.
